Welcome & Introduction
This guide will help you upload, create, edit, and present PowerPoint (.pptx) files securely using OnlyOffice within Seafile. This method allows you to access your presentations from any device without the need to carry USB drives or email files to yourself, enhancing both convenience and security. It also ensures compliance with University of Toronto privacy and data security policies (FIPPA).
Uploading PowerPoint (.pptx) Files
1. Navigate to Seafile using your SSO login.
2. Open your library where you want to store the presentation.
3. Click the ‘+’ icon and select ‘Upload Files’.
4. Choose your PowerPoint (.pptx) file from your device.
5. The file will now appear in your library.
6. Click on the file to open it in OnlyOffice, where you can view, edit, or present it directly in your browser.
Creating a New PowerPoint (.pptx) File
1. Navigate to Seafile using your SSO login.
2. Open your desired library.
3. Click the ‘+’ icon and choose ‘New > New PowerPoint File’.
4. The new file will appear in your library with a default name (you can rename it).
5. Open it to begin editing your presentation using OnlyOffice.
Editing and Presenting Your Slides
- Use the editing tools in OnlyOffice to modify your slides.
- Click ‘Start slideshow’ to present directly from your browser.
- You can also collaborate with others or add comments using the collaboration features.
Downloading and Protecting Files
- Use ‘File > Download As’ to download your presentation in formats such as PPTX, PDF, JPG, and PNG.
- Use ‘File > Protect’ to add a password to your presentation, ideal for shared library use.
Presenting on a Projector or External Display
- Log in to Seafile using your Faculty of Information SSO account.
- Open the PowerPoint file in OnlyOffice.
- Ensure your device or teaching station is set to ‘Extended Display’ mode.
- Click ‘Start Slideshow’ in OnlyOffice.
- Move the slideshow window to the projector screen.
- Use your main screen to view notes or control the presentation.
Presenting in a Microsoft Teams Meeting
- Open your presentation in OnlyOffice within Seafile.
- Join your Teams meeting.
- Click ‘Share’ in Teams and select the OnlyOffice tab or full screen.
- Click ‘Start Slideshow to begin presenting.
- Use ‘Include computer sound’ if needed.
Collaborating on PowerPoint Files in Seafile
- Place your .pptx file in a shared (unencrypted) Seafile library.
- Share the file or library using Seafile’s sharing options.
- Collaborators can open the file in OnlyOffice and edit in real-time.
- Use the ‘Collaboration’ tab in OnlyOffice for comments and edit tracking.
- Use file history to revert or review previous versions.
